Monkey Bar, a popular Indialantic sports bar, was cited for 17 violations, including one high-priority infraction, during a recent inspection by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation.

Local patrons will find some relief as the Brevard County eatery was not ordered to close but required a follow-up inspection at a later date.

The initial inspection on September 5, 2024, revealed a range of issues, including cleanliness concerns, equipment maintenance problems, and employee training deficiencies. State records revealed one high-priority violation, five intermediate infractions, and eleven basic issues that call attention to key areas needing improvement.

This is What The Inspection Revealed

Inspectors noted that nonexempt fish were offered raw or undercooked without proper parasite destruction, which was a high-priority violation.

Intermediate infractions included lack of date marking on opened ready-to-eat foods, missing paper towels at handwash sinks, and no proof of required employee training.

Meanwhile, basic violations ranged from food storage issues to soiled nonfood-contact surfaces. The bar lacked a handwashing sign, had a damaged cutting board, and stored food on the floor. Rust was observed in the ice machine, and standing water was found in the keg cooler.

Several issues were corrected on-site, including food storage and labeling problems. The Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation reminds patrons that each inspection is a snapshot of conditions at that time.

Monkey Bar, a festive establishment, known for its tropical vibe and live music, holds a 4.4-star rating from 802 Google reviews.

"Great place... friendly staff, awesome food and service! Everything under one roof you can't go wrong at the Monkey Bar," Anna S - a local guide shared on Google Reviews.

    Key Violations:

    • High Priority: Nonexempt fish offered raw or undercooked
    • Intermediate:
      • Chemical test kit not used
      • Commercially processed ready-to-eat food not dated
      • No paper towels or hand drying device
      • Missing employee training
      • No proof of employee health reporting
    • Basic:
      • Numerous cleanliness and maintenance issues, including debris, soiled surfaces, broken equipment

Monkey Bar is encouraged to take proactive measures to eliminate these remaining violations and maintain a safe and clean dining environment for its customers in Indialantic.

Funny how incorrect this article is by someone who doesn’t even live in this town. The “food on the floor” was a container of fryer oil that is kept in a plastic container which is also kept in a box. The fish statement is also incorrect because it clearly states what it is supposed to state in the menu. And there is a napkin dispenser next to the hand sink where paper towel should be. Read the actual report.
