Cafe Lavie, a Vietnamese restaurant located at 5030 Champions Gate Blvd Ste D8 in Boca Raton, Florida, was temporarily closed by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation due to pressing health code violations.

Violation Summary: The inspection, conducted on September 5th, 2024, identified a range of concerning issues, including live flies, rodent activity, unsuitable food storage practices, and an expired license.

    What Happened During The Inspection?

The initial review discovered a total of 13 violations, including four high-priority, six intermediate, and three basic violations.

This Palm Beach County eatery, known for its fresh ingredients and traditional Vietnamese flavors, holds a 4.5-star rating from 220 Google reviews.

Notably, a follow-up inspection on September 6 allowed the restaurant to reopen after meeting standards with six infractions remaining.

Inspectors noted significant spotlighted violations, such as live flying insects in the kitchen and dining areas, as well as rodent droppings throughout the establishment.

The Boca Raton restaurant was also operating with an expired license and had issues with food storage, including raw chicken stored above cooked broths.

Intermediate violations included unsuitable date marking of ready-to-eat foods, soiled food-contact surfaces, and lack of a certified food service manager on duty. The restaurant also lacked suitable measuring devices for cleaner temperatures.

Basic violations involved damaged walls, utensils stored in standing water below the required temperature, and unsavory odors in certain areas.

The Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation reminds patrons that each inspection is a snapshot of conditions at that time.

    Key Violations:

    • High Priority:
      • Live flies found in multiple areas of the restaurant
      • Rodent droppings discovered throughout the kitchen
      • Raw meat stored incorrectly above cooked food
      • Expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license
