A mother is seeking a change in her son's schooling after a concerning incident involving a school bus. According to Fox 4 Now, Sheena Presnell of Bonita Springs withdrew her five-year-old son, Matthew, from San Carlos Park Elementary School following an incident in which he was left on a school bus for nearly three hours.

Presnell sent Matthew, her special needs son off to school as usual on the morning of the incident, only to receive a call later that day informing her of his absence, the report said.

Despite receiving notifications that Matthew had been scanned on and off the bus, he was discovered asleep on the vehicle, having been taken along a different route.

Presnell said on Fox 4: "I got a call that he was absent, and I was like, is this a mistake? So of course my heart dropped. I called the school.

"What upset me the most was that she said, am I sure I put my son on the bus? That's what she told me. Of course, I put my son on the bus."

The incident raises questions about the reliability of the school district's recently implemented I.D. scanning system, which was designed to track student whereabouts. Presnell expressed her unease about the system's effectiveness, particularly after receiving a false notification.

Meanwhile, the report said the Lee County School District has confirmed that Matthew was never alone during the incident, as two adults supervised him. The school had also invited Presnell and her family to review the bus ride footage.

However, the district is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and has not provided further details regarding the use of mass scans.

Presnell remains dissatisfied with the district's response and has decided to withdraw Matthew from the school. She is exploring options for enrolling him in a school closer to home.

Her prerogative. Sadly the child receives the brunt of the decision.
