The dining commons at Courtyard By Marriott Ocala, located at 3712 SW 38th Ave in Marion County, Florida, was cited for 11 violations during a Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation inspection on Sept. 11, 2024. The 3-star hotel's food area wasn't ordered to close but required a follow-up inspection.

Inspectors found three high-priority, two intermediate, and six basic violations. The follow-up inspection on September 13, 2024, showed all issues had been addressed.

Among the high-priority violations were instances of incorrectly stored unhealthful substances and non-food-grade paper used as a liner for food containers.

The inspector noted that date-marked foods were not consumed within 7 days of preparation. This included meatballs dated September 1, cut lettuce from September 4, and cut cantaloupe from September 4. A stop sale was issued for these items.

Additional violations included basic concerns such as soiled floors and ceilings, as well as intermediate infractions related to food-contact surface cleanliness and the lack of hand drying devices at handwash sinks.

    Overall Rating and Future Inspections

This Courtyard By Marriott Ocala location maintained a 3.9-star rating on Google reviews. Meanwhile, it's essential to note that inspection reports provide a snapshot of conditions at a specific time and may not reflect ongoing practices.

A recent visitor named Taylor Sher shared their overall experience on Google review, stating:

I would never stay here again! The floors were so dirty. There was black on the shower floor, the soap was bottom of the barrel generic. Not Marriott standard at all!"

    High Priority Violations:

    • Date-marked foods not consumed within 7 days
    • Non-food grade paper used as food container liner
    • Cleaning bottles stored above food items
