A Fremont man was arrested on Wednesday after being accused of threatening another driver with a handgun during a road rage incident in Lancaster County.

According to KOLN TV, the confrontation took place around 11:00 a.m. on Highway 77 near Saltillo Road.

The report said a man called 911 to report that a semi-truck driver had pointed a teal 9mm handgun at him after being cut off on the highway. The victim was driving with his 1-year-old daughter and expressed his fear for their safety.

Deputies quickly located the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Nathan Dorries, near the intersection of Highway 77 and West O Street. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers found the handgun tucked in the back pocket of the driver’s seat.

Dorries was taken into custody and faces several charges, including the use of a weapon to commit a felony, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. A judge set his bond at 10 percent of $100,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 30 at 9 a.m.

KOLN TV reported that this is not Dorries' first brush with the law; he has a previous felony conviction from 2016 for fleeing to avoid arrest in Madison County.

Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Ben Houchin confirmed that no injuries resulted from the incident.

He emphasized the importance of calling law enforcement in similar situations, stating, “It’s not worth losing your life or getting hurt over an incident like this.”

Houchin also noted that incidents of road rage involving firearms seem to be on the rise.

He urged drivers to remain calm and report any dangers, saying, “Back off and call us.”
