Mama B's Diner, a family breakfast restaurant at 7651 SW State Rd 200 in Ocala, Florida, received citations for 10 violations during a complaint inspection on September 24, 2024. The Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation documented four high-priority, one intermediate, and five basic violations at this Marion County establishment.

Despite the infractions, Mama B's Diner maintains a 4.3-star rating from 248 Google reviews, indicating its popularity among local diners.

A local guide and recent customer, Lisa Bell, shared her thoughts on Google Reviews:

First time visiting there and the food was great. The employees were all super friendly and knew several customers by name. I would go back again. Wheelchair accessibility: We used a scooter and had no problems.

The restaurant, known for its affordable breakfast options, was not ordered to close but requires a follow-up inspection.

This is What Happened During The Inspection

High-priority violations included issues with the dishmachine's bleaching tool strength and temperature control problems for cold-held foods. A stop sale was issued for several items due to unsuitable storage temperatures.

The inspector also noted a lack of time marking for foods held using time as a public health management.

Intermediate and basic violations ranged from dirty food-contact surfaces to unsuitable storage of employee beverages and unwashed fruits. The inspector observed old labels on food containers, which was also a repeated violation.

State records showed that management took action to address some of violations on-site. They relocated employee drinks, properly stored unwashed fruits, and added time markings to foods held under time management.

While some violations were corrected during the inspection, others need improvement. The follow-up inspection will ensure all issues are fully resolved, underpinning the restaurant's commitment to food safety and customer well-being.

    High Priority Violations:

    • Dishmachine bleaching tool not at proper minimum strength
    • Stop Sale issued on time/temperature management for safety food due to temperature misuse
    • Time/temperature management for safety food cold held at greater than required degrees
    • Time/temperature management for safety food held using time as a public health management has no time marking
