Hollywood, FL — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for Hollywood, beginning Sunday, October 6, at 11 a.m. Heavy rainfall is expected to last into next week, with predictions of up to 8 inches of rain gathering by Thursday, October 10.

As Tropical Storm Milton develops in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, it is anticipated to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane by Monday morning.

According to a local news release this weekend, the storm is forecasted to make landfall along Florida’s southwest coast on Wednesday as a Category 2 hurricane, placing Hollywood, Florida and Broward County within its projected path for potential storm effects.

Residents are urged to be watchful and withhold from driving on flooded roads as localized flooding may occur in South Florida. Keep informed by following updates from trusted news sources, including the NWS.

    Parking Fees Waived for Residents

In response to the approaching storm, the City of Hollywood will waive parking fees in all four city-operated garages starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 6. This initiative aims to assist residents living in low-lying areas during the storm.

Parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and residents must provide proof of Hollywood residency. Note that commercial trucks and fleet vehicles are not permitted. All vehicles must be parked legally to avoid fines or towing.

The following garages will be available for parking:

    • Hollywood Beach:
      - Garfield Garage - 300 Connecticut St.
      - Nebraska Garage - 327 Nebraska St.
    • Downtown Hollywood:
      - Van Buren Garage - 251 S 20th Ave.
      - Radius Garage - 251 N 19th Ave.

Additional information regarding when vehicles must be removed will be announced.

    Free Sand Available for Residents

To help mitigate flooding, sand is being provided to Hollywood residents for DIY sandbags. Sand is available at the following locations on a first-come, first-served basis:

    • - Jefferson Park, 1501 Jefferson Street
    • - Rotary Park, 3150 Taft Street
    • - Driftwood Community Center, 3000 N. 69th Avenue

Residents are advised to bring their own shovels and bags if possible. The sand will be accessible from dawn to dusk while supplies last.

For those needing bags, empty bags can be collected from the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Administrative office at 1405 S. 28th Avenue, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., while supplies last. A limit of 10 bags per household will be enforced.
