Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has urged several counties in the Sunshine State, including all of South Florida, to prepare for Tropical Storm Milton as it forms in the Gulf of Mexico.

Residents in 35 counties, such as Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Hillsborough, Collier, and Orange, are urged to start their storm preparations. Officials caution that Milton could strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Florida coast next week.

The declaration allows state resources to be mobilized to assist local governments in response efforts and to help communities prepare for potential impacts from the storm.

Officials are advising residents to gather essential supplies, secure their homes, and stay informed about the storm's progress. As the situation develops, authorities emphasize the importance of being ready for possible evacuations and local disruptions.

The Following Counties Have Been Cautioned:

Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, DeSoto, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Volusia.
