Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) announced closures for Wednesday and Thursday due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Milton. The decision comes as local officials closely monitor the storm's trajectory and potential impact on the area.

BCPS outlined a series of operational changes in response to the hurricane threat. Tuesday, October 8, will see schools and district offices open, but closing early at 4 p.m. All after-school activities, including care programs and evening classes, are canceled for the day.

The closures extend to Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10, with all Broward County Public Schools facilities shuttered. This includes the cancellation of all programs, field trips, and events on both days. The Magnet Program Expo, originally scheduled for Thursday evening at Nova Southeastern University, will be rescheduled.

Meanwhile, local residents have expressed mixed reactions to the school district's decision. Some parents voiced unease about the timing of the closure announcement, while others supported the precautionary measures.

Grace Brinkman shared in a comment under the announcement on the Broward County Public Schools Facebook page:

"Those who want to take your kids to school tomorrow do so otherwise keep them home, which is what I would be doing"

    Bianca McHugh added:

"The buses are gonna have trouble getting through the puddles tomorrow, so many areas are already flooded today."

    Dale Brett posted:

"Way to go Broward! Drama and laziness at its finest. You do realize its NOTHING here from that storm right."

Broward County Public Schools anticipates resuming normal operations on Friday, October 11, but urges families to stay informed about Hurricane Milton's progress. The district will provide updates through various channels, including ParentLink, social media, and the official BCPS website.

As Hollywood, Florida, residents prepare for potential storm effects, school officials emphasize the importance of safety protection. The community is advised to follow local emergency management guidelines and stay tuned for further updates from BCPS regarding any changes to the school schedule.
