    Pollo Tropical in Plantation was cited for 5 violations during a complaint inspection by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation on October 7, 2024. The Caribbean-style fast-food chain, located at 50 N University Dr in Broward County, received 1 high-priority, 2 intermediate, and 2 basic violations.

    The inspection revealed the presence of small flying insects throughout the food preparation areas. This high-priority violation noted multiple insects landing on walls and food preparation surfaces in various parts of the kitchen.

    The inspector revealed observing two live flying insects landing on the wall at the mop sink, two on the wall in the prep station, and six on the walls and food preparation table in the batter station.

    Intermediate violations included a lack of paper towels at a handwash sink and an unlabeled bottle containing an unhealthy substance. Basic violations involved an exterior door with a gap and unlabeled food containers.

    A follow-up inspection on October 8, 2024, found just one remaining violation, allowing the restaurant to meet inspection standards.
