    A jailhouse incident leads to notable injury at Escambia County, Florida, facility

    An altercation at the Escambia County Jail on October 4, 2024, resulted in an inmate sustaining an unusual injury, according to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred after two inmates had been sharing a cell for three days.

    Details of the Encounter

    Deputies responded to the jail following reports of an attack on an inmate. The investigation revealed that the victim had been housed with another inmate, identified as Asia Harvey, 27, for a period of three days. During this time, Harvey reportedly displayed irresponsible behavior.

    The situation escalated when Harvey allegedly:

    • Threw toilet water at her cellmate
    • Grabbed the victim by the hair
    • Punched the victim
    • Jumped on top of the victim
    • Bit the victim's arm
    • Bit off a large portion of the victim's eyebrow

    Resolution and Charges

    According to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, correction officers intervened and successfully separated Harvey from the victim. Following the incident, Asia Harvey was charged with aggravated battery.

    Wëndï Blankenship, commenting on the post on the Escambia County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, said:

    The guards don’t care about the inmates wellbeing is how it even got to this point! Secondly, she sounds like she needs to be sent to Lakeview for a mental health evaluation.

    The Escambia County Sheriff's Office continues to monitor and address such incidents to maintain order within the county's correctional system.

    I had an incident where I hit my head. I was just moved to the top bunk as my bottom bunk pass disappeared. I woke up not remembering I was on the top bunk. I came off the top bunk and hit my head. I don't know if they ever called for help as I got back in my bunk and covered my eyes with my thermal top. I do remember hearing someone say I don't care if she dies as long as it's not on my shift. I have zero respect for anyone in the sheriff office but sgt Yost, I love her she's got a good heart. I miss the CBD days but those days are long gone.
