Firehouse Subs, a popular sandwich chain located at 1920 NE 5th Ave in Boca Raton, Florida, was cited for 6 violations, including 1 high-priority infraction, during a routine inspection by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation. While the Palm Beach County eatery, known for its made-to-order hot and cold subs was not forced to close, a follow-up inspection was required to address the issues.

The initial inspection, conducted on October 14, 2024, discovered a few issues, including unsuitable food handling, temperature management problems, and unhealthy food safety conditions.

State records revealed the high-priority violation involved time/temperature management issues for safety foods. The inspectors found several items being held at temperatures above the recommended temperature in various coolers.

The inspection also revealed some intermediate violations, including a lack of proof of food manager certification and required state-approved employee training. These issues highlight the importance of ongoing staff education in the food service industry.

On the bright side, Firehouse Subs' management took quick action. They immediately removed the affected items and called for maintenance during the inspection.

Encouragingly, a subsequent review on October 15 showed significant improvement. The restaurant addressed all but two violations and met inspection standards, demonstrating a commitment to food safety.

Despite these setbacks, Firehouse Subs maintains a solid 4.1-star rating from 171 Google reviews, suggesting that customers generally enjoy their dining experience.

A customer named Garrett Kealer, shared their experience on Google reviews: "We've always had a great experience at this Firehouse Subs. Amy was extremely kind!"

For sub lovers seeking hot and cold sandwich options, Firehouse Subs in Boca Raton, Florida, continues to serve up favorites.

However, locals should stay informed about the restaurant's ongoing efforts to enhance food safety practices.

    High Priority Violation:

    • Time/temperature management for safety food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit

    Questions for our Readers:

    1. How can patrons help ensure restaurants maintain high food safety standards?
    2. Should local health departments increase the frequency of restaurant inspections?
