Colorado HOA Calls Cops on Kids' Lemonade Stand, Florida Kids' Lemonade Stands Safe

    2024-08-01

Have you ever run or supported a child's lemonade stand in your neighborhood in Florida? Such experiences, a simple act of childhood entrepreneurship, can create lasting memories, but for a group of children in Summit County, Colorado, their lemonade stand unexpectedly sparked fuss.

According to KKTV, members of the Wildernest Home Owners Association called the Summit County Sheriff's Office, complaining about children running an "illegal" lemonade stand. The report said the callers claimed the kids were blocking the road.

However, when deputies arrived, they found no such obstruction.

"Deputies arrived on scene and found that the children were not blocking the roadway but did ask them to move back from the road a few feet for their safety," the Summit County Sheriff's Office told KKTV.

Just as the matter seemed resolved, homeowners emerged and began yelling at the children, claiming they were on private property. This prompted the deputies to return to the scene.

Upon further investigation, the deputies determined that the property was shared HOA space. Because the children's parents are part of the HOA, the kids had every right to be there, KKTV reported.

The incident has raised eyebrows and questions about community relations. While Floridians are accustomed to seeing young entrepreneurs selling lemonade and other fun-raising items, it seems some Colorado residents weren't as welcoming.

    1. What do you think about HOAs getting involved in children's entrepreneurial activities?
