The recovery efforts for hurricane Helene continue. One of the Commonwealth's former leading health officials is heading straight to the destruction to help those most impacted by the storm. Since it touched down on Thursday Sept. 26, hurricane Helene has laid a deadly path throughout the southeast region.
Lakes remain closed in Mecklenburg County
Mecklenburg County officials said Wednesday that all lake access remains closed on Wednesday. The area is still dealing with stormwater runoff, debris and bacteria from sewage overflows caused by Hurricane Helene's historic rainfall and flooding.

Braylon Clark is a wide receiver prospect from Charlotte Country Day School in Mecklenburg County. Oct. 2, 11:20 a.m. - Clark is an early favorite to be the top class of 2028 prospect in North Carolina. Since July 31, he has received five Power 4 offers. Four have come from ACC schools: Florida State, UNC, NC State, and Miami. He also has an SEC offer from Ole Miss.
