Man killed in hit-and-run on Route 390 in Gates identified

Monroe County sheriff's deputies have identified the man killed late Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash on Route 390 in Gates.

Daniel Burke, 63, of Rochester was pronounced dead at the scene, on the northbound lanes of Route 390, just north of Exit 21 at Lyell Avenue, said sheriff's spokeswoman Amy Young. The crash occurred just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Burke, she said, had just been involved in another hit-and-run crash late Tuesday. Burke allegedly rear-ended an ambulance while on Interstate 390, near Chili Avenue, and fled the scene. He reportedly continued driving north before crashing into a guardrail and construction sign, exiting his vehicle and walking onto the highway, Young said.

"Our sincerest condolences to Mr. Burke’s family during this difficult time," Young said in a news release.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the incident is asked to call 911.
