The right lane of the northbound Gatlinburg Spur is temporarily closed north of Westgate Resorts Road for rockslide mitigation, according to the National Park Service.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park roads implemented a temporary one-lane closure July 17 to clear a rockslide near the tunnel. The lane closure starts north of Westgate Resorts Road.

NPS expects the road should be fully re-opened by the end of the day.

The rockslide started the afternoon of July 16 after a brief rain shower, the park noted in a news release. Crews from Blalock are helping the park service to clear the road and remove loose rocks from the cliff above.

Updates can also be found on nps.gov/grsm and the park’s social media accounts.
