National Night Out events set for Aug. 6
In an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community relationships and building safety neighborhoods, several local National Night Out events are planned Tuesday, Aug. 6. The City of Jonesboro is hosting its event from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lee Street Park, 155 Lee Street, while the City of Morrow is holding an event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The District, 1065 Olde Towne Morrow Road. Clayton County Emergency Services is holding an event from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lovejoy Soccer Complex, 1935 McDonough Road, Hampton. Each event will feature family-friendly activities. National Night Out was first held in 1984 in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, Penn. It began with neighbors simply turning on their porchlights and sitting in front of their homes. Now, some of the National Night Out events are full-blown festivals and parties with a wide range of activities. Here are some scenes from last year’s events in Morrow and Jonesboro.

One month after a judge granted her appeal and vacated her seven-year sentence in the tax evasion and fraud case, Julie Chrisley is granted a resentencing date. According to PEOPLE, the Chrisley Knows Best alum is set to return to Atlanta on September 25 to receive a new sentence. Vivian (Cordy Tindell Vivian), born on July 30, 1924, in Boonville, Missouri, was a renowned civil rights leader and close associate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He grew up in Illinois and attended Western Illinois University, where he was involved in his first non-violent direct action, a lunch counter sit-in in Peoria, Illinois, in 1947.
Autopsy released for Atlanta mom found dead inside car 2 years after teen son shot to death
ATLANTA — The cause of death has been released for an Atlanta mother whose body was found inside a car more than a week ago. Chanell Crosby, 35, was found dead inside the back of a vehicle around 2 p.m. on July 19 in the area of the West End MARTA station, police said. The discovery of her body came a day after her family filed a missing persons report with Atlanta Police on July 18. Her family said she was last seen on July 14.
