GAYLORD — With all the excitement surrounding the Gaylord softball team and their second state championship, the accomplishments of the baseball team that plays just yards away can get lost in the mix.

Despite an early exit in the Division 2 postseason, the Blue Devils baseball team put together a solid regular season finishing with a 25-13-1 record with seven conference victories and at least a win against all but one Big North Conference opponent.

Fittingly, the Blue Devils were rewarded when the All-BNC teams were released at the end of the season, having six players named to all-conference rosters, including two first-team members (Will Bethuy, Lucas Green), three second-team members (Colin Piehl, Aiden Locker, Torino Lamerato) and one honorable mention (Noah Vanderveer).

Senior Will Bethuy was a first-team outfielder after a solid final season from the plate, hitting for a .374 batting average with a team-high 40 hits along with 13 runs batted in and 26 runs scored.

Green, a junior, was one of the conference's best two-way players, posting a .333 batting average and 20 runs scored while playing some of the best defense in the conference from his shortstop position.

Infielders Aidan Locker and Collin Piehl both made the second team, giving three of the four starting GHS infielders all-conference honors. Locker, a senior, hit .263 with 26 hits and 23 RBI. Piehl, a junior, hit .246 with 27 runs scored. The final second team member, senior outfielder Torino Lamerato, hit .293 while leading the team with 37 runs scored and 43 stolen bases.

Junior Noah Vanderveer was the lone honorable mention as the team's top pitcher, posting a 5-3 record with a 2.66 earned run average and 49 total strikeouts.

Three of the all-conference members are graduating while three return to the Blue Devils roster next season, giving an improving GHS program something to look forward to as they make a run at a BNC title in 2025.
