WHITEWATER — Winning pitcher Tyler Schroedl singled home the go-ahead runs in the fifth inning as Jefferson’s baseball team beat Milton 4-2 at UW-Whitewater on Tuesday, finishing the regular season for the Eagles.

Batting in the top half of the fifth, Jefferson came up to hit trailing 1-0 after Milton’s Charlie Kober drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Tyler Altermatt lined a single to center to open the frame for Jefferson. His courtesy runner, older brother Andrew, took second base on Sam Steies’ sac bunt. Bentley Wagner followed with a single and leadoff man Aidan Kammer walked to load the bases before Tyler Fredrick flew out to center for the second out.

Schroedl dug in next, singling on a fly ball to right field on a 1-0 pitch from starter Trey Jones to plate three runs and make it 3-1 in favor of Jefferson.

The Eagles (21-5) added an insurance run in the fifth when Finn DeBlare reached safely on a two-out error. His courtesy runner Tyler Steinke scored from first on a line-shot double to left by Steies. The frame ended with Steies getting called out at the dish trying to score from second on a base hit up the middle by Kammer.

Broden Jackson homered to left with one out in the seventh for the Red Hawks (11-13).

Schroedl started and pitched the first five innings, allowing an earned run on one hit with four strikeouts, no walks. Fredrick pitched the sixth and seventh innings to close it out.

Milton has one regular-season game left, a road matchup against geographical rival Janesville Craig at Riverside Park in Janesville at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The Red Hawks’ first postseason game will be at home against Wilmot next Tuesday.
