Town of Rock: Volunteers needed Saturday for June tornado cleanup

JANESVILLE — The town of Rock has put out a call for volunteers for a cleanup event on Saturday, Aug. 24, to help those still struggling to clear debris from an EF-2 tornado that struck on June 22.

To sign up to volunteer, visit www.townofrockw.gov/volunteer. After signing up, you will be contacted with more information and to confirm your participation.

The event will begin at 8 a.m., but help is welcome at any point in the day.

“If this start time doesn’t work, we will accommodate volunteers at any time throughout the day. Your participation, no matter the timing, is invaluable,” the town said in a release.

“While the storm’s devastation may seem like a distant memory to some, many of our neighbors continue to face significant challenges. Elderly residents and families without adequate insurance coverage are particularly in need of help with debris removal. We need volunteers to step up and make a difference in our communty,” the release said.

Volunteers with chainsaws, trucks, and trailers are especially needed, but anyone willing to lend a hand is welcome.

“General cleanup assistance is crucial, and no special equipment is required for those willing to help on the ground,” the town’s release said, adding that “this is an opportunity for the people of Rock County and surrounding areas to come together in support of those still in need. Let’s join forces to help our community recover fully.”
