EDGERTON — Hosting Edgerton went 4-2 at the 2024 Taylor Invite on Saturday, including a two-set volleyball win against Janesville Craig. The Cougars also went 4-2 in the tournament, with their other loss coming against Stoughton.

“This was the hardest two weeks we’ve had,” said Craig coach Emily Collas. “We played 17 games in 14 days. And I think they’ve only gotten better.”

The Vikings played a tough match against Craig. Stoughton took set one 25-13 after the Cougars started hot.

“We ran out of gas against Edgerton,” said Collas. “And against Stoughton we just couldn’t put it away.”

Sophie Hanna delivered quality serves en route to the Cougars 7-3 start against the Vikings. But the Vikings rallied back with a string of kills and a few mistakes by Craig.

“I feel like we kept our energy up for the most part and really pushed,” Hanna said. “Even though it didn’t go as planned we definitely kept our energy up.”

After the set one loss, Craig rolled through the second set and won 25-18.

In the third and final set, Stoughton set the tone with a pair of serving aces to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Cougars notched the score at 5-5 but eventually fell 15-12.

Following a short break, the Cougars swept East Troy in round seven of the tournament, leaving Edgerton High on a positive note.

Platteville and Stoughton had the best records (6-1) out of the eight teams that played in the tournament.

Platteville’s only loss came against Craig in three sets. The Cougars lost set one 25-22, but bounded back with a 25-14 win in set two, and a 16-14 win in the last set.

After the hard two-week stretch, the Cougars will host crosstown rival Janesville Parker on Tuesday.

Collas said fundamentals and passing will be key parts of the team’s preparation for the rivalry game against Parker.

“I think we need to play to our own tempo and our own momentum,” Collas said.
