JANESVILLE — The Janesville Craig Cougars pounced on the Parker Vikings for a 10-0 triumph at Janesville Parker High Thursday night.

The Cougars (2-5-1, 1-5) poured in on their rival in the Big 8 conference boys’ soccer match during rivalry week. Once the Cougars scored their first goal at the 25-minute mark, the visiting team never looked back.

The win for the Cougars earned them their first conference victory.

“Good win against our cross town rivals tonight,” said Craig coach Josh Hammen. “[The] Team did a good job of moving the ball and staying focused on playing our game.”

Down 7-0 in the second half, Bier put in some of his Viking junior varsity players to get them experience. Since the Parker junior varsity season was canceled due to injuries and other unforeseen circumstances, the game provided valuable playing time for those players.

Parker (0-10, 0-6) will host Fort Atkinson Saturday, Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m.

Craig continues its season Tuesday against Madison Memorial on Craig’s home field.

“Our kids played hard from start to finish [and] I was proud of the effort,” said Parker coach Jason Bier.

Thursday, it was the girls’ swim teams’ turn to compete in rivalry week between Janesville Parker High and Craig High.

    The Cougars won, 86-78.

“It was hands down the most exciting meet of the season. Nearly all our swimmers hit personal bests, which is a testament to the hard work they’ve put in during training, “ said Parker coach Erin Jensen.

Jensen complimented all swimmers that competed in the exciting meet tonight.

“All Janesville swimmers, Parker and Craig did amazing tonight,” she said.

Sophomore Raya Elliott continues to be one of Craig’s top swimmers. Elliott took the top spot in both 100-yard butterfly (1:06.14) and 200-yard individual medley (2:26.48).

For Parker, Junior Lily Mayfield also finished with the top mark in two individual events; the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.94) and 50-yard freestyle (26.02).
