JANESVILLE – Need a good book -- or 10 -- to get through those darker, colder nights ahead?

Members of the American Association of University Women sorted and categorized more than 5,000 books on Tuesday for their upcoming used book sale.

The sixty-third annual sale is Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 10-13, and Friday through Sunday, Oct. 18-20, at the Old Towne Mall, 20 S. Main St., Janesville. Hours for the sale are:

    Preview Day -- 1-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, with a $5 entry fee9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 118 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1211 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 139 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 188 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1911 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20. Fill a grocery bag for $10.

The book sale funds scholarships AAUW gives to young local women going to college for the first time as well as one for women over age 25 to continue their education.

AAUW receives its book donations from people throughout the Rock County area.

Thanks to the abundance of books donated, AAUW often donates to RECAP (Rock County Education and Criminal Addictions Program), ECHO (Everyone Cooperating to Help Others) and the local men's shelter, according to Diane Adams, a board member of AAUW Wisconsin.

“We’re recycling and helping some people who can't afford books and encouraging them to read more. Kids love coming and picking out books from our children's section.” Adams said.
