JC Breakfast Optimist Club Donates To Big Brothers/Big Sisters
On July 10 Michelle Sink, Area Director of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, told the JC Breakfast Optimist Club members about Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Michelle stated that her “area covers the counties of Riley, Pottawatomie, Geary and some identified cities outside of those counties. Big Brothers/Big Sisters is a one-to-one mentor program in which caring adults work with youth who face adversity in their lives. Support, attending school events, spending time with and showing up for kids is important. Youth ages 5-18 are matched with an adult through a process.
It's about time for Stuff the Bus
United Way of Junction City - Geary County will be conducting its 14th Annual Stuff the Bus Program on Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter and Dillons. Other dates include Saturday, July 27 and Saturday, Aug. 3. You can sign up for the Stuff the Bus or Adopt-A-Backpack programs and help United Way collect school supplies for students in the community.
Deputies respond to accidents
The Geary County Sheriff's Department reported that Deputies responded at 5:04 p.m. Wednesday to I-70 Eastbound Mile Marker 303 exit ramp for a two-vehicle injury accident. Edward Huddleston of Manhattan, was at the stop sign of the intersection for Clarks Creek and K-18 Bypass, on his 2012 Can Am Spyder Motorcycle. Clayton Southers of Lost Springs, KS, while traveling in his 2016 Ford Fusion., ran into the side of Huddleston's motorcycle, causing disabling damage to both vehicles. Edward and Clayton were both transported to Stormont Vail Hospital.

Geary County asks residents to report any damage from June 28 storm
GEARY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) - Geary Co. is asking residents of Junction City and Grandview Plaza to report any storm damage they may have suffered on the evening of June 28. Geary Co. Emergency Management has teamed up with United Way 2-1-1 and the Kansas Division of Emergency Management to find out how many individuals received damage.

Geary County Sheriff’s investigating a stolen 4-wheeler
Geary County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the theft of a 4-wheeler. Deputies responded just prior to 6 p.m. on Tuesday to the 500 block of Airport Road in Junction City Airport in reference to a stolen 4-wheeler that was used to damage fields around the area between K-57 highway at mile marker 6 and Elm Dale Road.
Attention will soon shift to the Fairgrounds
The Geary County Free Fair runs July 21st-25th at the Fairgrounds adjacent to South Spring Valley Road. There are pre-fair activities the week before ranging from the 4-H Public Revue Thursday evening July 18th to the 4-H Dog Show Friday evening July 19. The Junction City Rodeo will also be July 19th and 20th.
