School is Back in Session in Mitchell on Wednesday August 21
MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Dr. Joe Childs, Superintendent of the Mitchell Public Schools, reminds citizens that school is back in session. That means students of all sizes and ages will be on the streets walking to school. Other students will be behind the wheel driving to school as will many parents. Dr. Childs advises people to be vigilant while driving and to look out for children who don’t always look out for themselves when walking or crossing the street.
5 decades of bringing art to Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - October will officially mark five decades for the Dahl Arts Center. After 50 years of being the heart of art and culture in the Rapid City community, the Dahl Arts Center will host its Benefit Art Auction & Gala on Oct. 5. As a celebration to commemorate the years of work and mission behind the center’s success of “expanding arts for all.”
House along Brandon golf course tops sales report at $880,000
The most expensive residential sale for the week of July 29 was $880,000 for a home along one of the golf courses in Brandon. The 4,000-square-foot ranch walkout was built in 1986 along Hidden Valley Golf Course. It has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a four-stall garage. The living room features an A-frame ceiling with wood beams, and there’s a stone fireplace. A large deck overlooks an in-ground pool that’s surrounded by a patio, extensive landscaping and mature trees.
The Corn Palace Festival Kicks Off Wednesday August 21
MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The annual Corn Palace Festival begins on Mitchell’s Main Street, north of the Corn Palace, beginning at 5pm on Wednesday August 21st. Brandon Jones will be giving a free concert in the Corn Palace Plaza at 7pm to kick off the free entertainment in the Plaza. Scotty McCreery will take the Corn Palace stage on Thursday August 22, with the Battles of the Bands on Friday August 23 and Skillet in concert on Saturday August 23. Blue Dragon Soccer Young, but Ready for Season
The Garretson Blue Dragon girls soccer team will be young, but they are ready to get the 2024 season started. The Blue Dragons have a total of 18 players this year from both Garretson and Dell Rapids. Kaylin Leedy and Cortney Rogich are the only two seniors on this year’s team and will be looked at to lead the team. “We have some returning players who have been staples on the team since they were in 7th and 8th grade, which will also add some veteran presence on the pitch,” said head coach Amber Bos.
South Dakota, Iowa Join Minnesota in Lawsuit Against Live Nation and Ticketmaster
South Dakota and Iowa have now joined Minnesota and 36 other states in a civil antitrust lawsuit two of the largest concert ticket brokers in America. The suit, filed against Ticketmaster and Live Nation, alleges that the companies are violating Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Act, which is a Federal antitrust law, as well as state antitrust laws.
