Laura “Billie” Hillman Johnson - age 91 of Holly passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. She was at the Briarwood Nursing Home in Flint. Laura was proceeded in death by husband, Oliver Johnson; her son, Jim Johnson; parents, Arthur and Minnie Hillman; several brothers and sisters, Alvina Hillman Browne, Alice Gordon Hillman, Arthur “Bunk” Hillman II, Robert Hillman, Ruth Hillman Carnes, Wilbur Hillman, Jack Hillman and Jim Hillman. She is survived by one sister; Sandra “Corkie” Hillman Hanna of North Branch; niece, Connie Stevens; great friend, Bob Maser who both took great care of her, several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. Dennis Herbert Colwell - age 84, of Fenton, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Fenton United Methodist Church, 119 S. Leroy St, Fenton. Pastor Jeff Jaggers officiating. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Tuesday from 2 - 5 and 7 - 9 PM and at church Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Fenton United Methodist Church Food Pantry, Compassus Hospice or the Salvation Army. Dennis was born May 18, 1940 in Pontiac, the son of Robert Leroy and Katherine Beverly (Narsh) Colwell. He was a 1958 graduate of Lake Orion High School. He married Mary Lynn Shoup June 15, 1963 in Lake Orion. He had resided in Fenton since 1995 coming from Clarkston and Lake Orion. Dennis retired in 2000 from GM Pontiac Truck and Bus after 40 years of service. He was a member of Fenton United Methodist Church, where he and his wife ran the Food Pantry for 15 years. He also was a member of the U.A.W., Fenton Lions and Clarkston Village Players. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary Lynn; children, Ann (Scott) Colwell-Johnson of White Lake, Susan (Gary) Newman of Traverse City and Mark (Dawn) Colwell of Chagrin Falls, OH; grandchildren, Sarah (Nathaniel) Stoller, Davis (Rachel) Roeser, Jacob and Katie Colwell, Shannon (Matt) Olenick, Derek (Mary) Newman, Nathan, Benjamin and Logan Johnson; great-grandchildren, Chase (Liz), Livia, Andrew and Aaron; sisters, Cheryl Scribner of Metamora and Kathy Wiegand of Rochester Hills; sister-in-law, Rae Ann Colwell of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Victim of 2021 Owosso bar shooting sues bar and alleged shooter
CORUNNA — The victim of a shooting that occurred in late 2021 inside an Owosso bar is suing the establishment and the alleged shooter. In February 2023, the victim, through attorney David Dworetzky of Southfield-based Fieger Law, filed a civil lawsuit in Shiawassee County Circuit Court alleging the defendants were responsible for the injuries he sustained, and that he is entitled to monetary damages.
