(WNY News Now) – Olean – A routine check by Olean Police culminates in the arrest of a Franklinville man on a probation violation warrant. On July 8, 2024, at 12:00 PM, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of 22-year-old Ryan A. Olson of Franklinville, NY. Olson was detained by the Olean Police Department following a Child Protective Services (CPS) visit and subsequently handed over to the Sheriff’s Office.

Commentary: Public libraries do more than serve communities, they help build them
I've always had a deep love for libraries. I remember the excitement every time our family walked into a library, thrilled by all the books. When I was hired by the Olean Public Library, it felt both surreal and serendipitous. I was going to be the real-life Belle and skate around on ladders putting books away! However, it turned out to be quite the opposite. While I do work with books, I have found that the real focus is working with the community.
Police reports 7/13/24
Thursday, 7 p.m., Dennis P. Kranock, 43, of Franklinville, was charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony; second-degree criminal contempt and second-degree criminal trespass, class A misdemeanors. The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Cuba Police Department. Kranock was transported to Allegiant County Jail and held pending further court proceedings.
Cuba First Baptist serves area children
CUBA — The First Baptist Church of Cuba will again be sponsoring two annual events geared to the children of the area. Vacation Bible school will kick off their week-long program on Aug. 12. From 9 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday, children entering Kindergarten through grade 6 will climb Everest! Eugene L. Hackett, 82, of Tioga, suffered a suspected minor injury in a two-vehicle crash on Arnot Road, Bloss Township July 6. Hackett was traveling south in a 2010 Mercury Mountaineer when he hit a legally parked 2004 Ford F-250 Supercab in the area of 2062 Arnot Road. He was wearing a seat belt. The parked truck was unoccupied.

Stacy L. Smyder, 40, of Galeton, escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash on 8th Street, Galeton June 26. Snyder was traveling south on 5th Street near Fairview Avenue in a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer when she hit an embankment near the residence of 81 5th Street. She then fled the scene and was later located and found to be under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to property.

Hinsdale Man Arrested for Larceny at Olean Car Dealership
