Police reports 7/8/24
Wednesday, 10:44 p.m., no injuries were reported following a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of North Union and Wayne streets. A vehicle operated by John R. Palumbo, 67, of 102 Westbrook Blvd., was entering the traffic circle when it reportedly struck a vehicle operated by Tina M. Clemons, 51, of 554 Martha Ave. Police indicated that Palumbo was cited for failure to yield right-of-way, an infraction.
Olean General, BRMC announce July Star Award recipients
OLEAN — Carly Cataldo and Mary Jo Inzana are this month’s Star Award recipients, Upper Allegheny Health System recently announced. The Star Award is presented monthly at Olean General Hospital and Bradford (Pa.) Regional Medical Center to an employee who demonstrates outstanding performance and inspires the same in others. Staff are nominated for exceptional customer satisfaction, continuous performance improvement, teamwork, communication, ownership/accountability and excellence through co-worker or patient nominations.

Four Olean Area Grads Receive Murphy Scholarships
Four Olean area high school students recently received the John J. Murphy Family Scholarship managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation. Megan Fisher and Sughosh Kondur of Allegany-Limestone, Madison Jobe of Portville and Riti Anumalasetty of Olean were awarded the John J. Murphy Family Scholarship. Each student received a $10,000 scholarship, divided into $2,500 per year for up to four years.
Arts Council announces upcoming classes
OLEAN — Tri County Arts Council announces a series of upcoming classes to help escape the summer heat. Wheel Throwing — July 9, 16, 23, 30 and Aug. 6, 13 with Abby Zickefoose from 6-8 p.m. with use of Clay Studio for 6 weeks; cost: $180 artisan members and above, $200 basic/family members and non-members; ages 14 and up. The goal of the Wheel Throwing class is to provide students with a general understanding of basic beginner level throwing techniques such as centering, pulling walls, trimming and glazing. Participants of the class will gain a broader understanding of wheel throwing and the stages of making a pot. Skill levels can include someone who has been working with clay for 30 years to someone who has never touched clay. If desired, bring your own aprons and hand towels.

Carroll Project Illustrates State’s Building Problem
It doesn’t appear that anyone wants a five-unit apartment complex in Frewsburg. A recent special Carroll Town Board meeting lasting more than two hours included not one comment in favor of a project proposed by Diamond Builders Construction at 82 Falconer St., Frewsburg. But, the project as proposed meets the town of Carroll’s building and zoning codes – so there needs to be a good reason to deny it or the town could find itself in court.

A historic run for Wellsville 10u Little League team results in District 2 title; story and photos
On June 23 at 2 p.m., the first game of the 10u Little League All-Star bracket took place as LeRoy downed Wellsville, 7-4. That dropped the Wellsville team into the consolation bracket and the team would not only have to fight all the way back, but even if they were to win, they would go against the champions from the Cattaraugus County bracket with a loss.
