Olean marks Independence Day with fun, fireworks
OLEAN — Thousands flocked to Olean’s Bradner Stadium, War Vets Park and other adjacent sites on Thursday afternoon as part of Independence Day festivities. The Olean Oilers hosted festivities for a second year, taking over from the city’s firefighters union in 2023. Events began when the gates opened at 12:30 p.m. for a free baseball game at 1:30 p.m., with the two-time NYCBL champion Oilers topping the Salamanca Lizards, 4-3. Gates to the field opened at 5 p.m., with the band New Wave Nation taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks erupted at 9:45 p.m., capping off the evening for visitors in the stadium and in the surrounding sections of the city.

16th annual Lavender Festival returns to Angelica
ANGELICA — The 16th Annual Lavender Festival is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Park Circle, coinciding with the weekly Farmer’s Market. This year’s festival pays tribute to Patricia “Pat” Kaake, one of the original founders of the event. In honor of Kaake, who lost her battle with COVID-19 in 2023, a handmade quilt that was started by her a few years ago will be raffled. Kaake's daughter, Shannon Kaake, completed the quilt in honor of her mother.

Wellsville village committee to consider future of theater building
WELLSVILLE — The local movie theater is coming back into focus. At its last meeting in June, the village board was asked about the former Grande Theater, which is now owned by the village. Thanking the board for purchasing the theater after it was put on the auction block at the county tax auction last year, resident Angela Glickstein suggested the board organize a committee to look into the future of the decades-old theater.
