Cherry Springs State Park under renovation
Coudersport, Pa. — Cherry Springs State Park is known to stargazers around the nation as one of the darkest places on the eastern seaboard, and therefore one of the best for night sky viewing. Hornell Steamers Defeat Horseheads
The Hornell Steamers scored in every inning as they defeated the Horseheads Hitmen 17-3 on Wednesday night. Hornell is now 15-7-1 on the season and 9-3-1 at Maple City Park. After a 1-2-3 top of the inning from Trey Slawson (Alfred State), the Steamers got the offense going. Scotty Haines always wanted to try photographing wildlife. But as he says, “I was so busy before with focusing on my sports full-time that I just didn’t get to it.”. Haines, a 1975 Portville graduate, has spent much of the last 15 years chasing a passion for photography. After more than 20 years in law enforcement, he retired from the Wayne County (N.Y.) Sheriff’s Office in 2015. He “got back into” photography in 2009 and focused on it even more in retirement, including two seasons as the Times Herald’s Buffalo Bills photographer before the pandemic.
American graffiti: Artist creates murals in So. Tier, one wall at a time
BOLIVAR — He started as a graffiti artist painting on train cars and buildings in Buffalo. Today he has a growing business creating murals across the Southern Tier. Vincent “AJ” Alejandro most recently created a historical mural depicting a Main Street scene from the late 1800s in Bolivar. The mural is on the wall of the Community Bank on Main Street in view of the village’s newest park. BRAG, the Bolivar, Richburg, Allentown and Genesee Historical Society, sponsored the mural to help celebrate Bolivar’s bicentennial coming up in 2025.
