Wellsville woman sentenced for 2023 arson
BELMONT — A Wellsville woman was sentenced to state prison for her role in a May 2023 apartment building fire. Allegany County District Attorney Ian Jones reported that Jessica L. Morrison of Wellsville was sentenced on Thursday to eight years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision. She had originally been charged with second-degree arson, a class B felony; and first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief, both class D felonies. She pleaded guilty in April.
Oilers knock off first-place Rapids, win 2nd straight
OLEAN — The Olean Oilers took down the NYCBL West Division-leading Genesee Rapids Wednesday night, riding a three-run go-ahead home run from Cooper Rossano. Rossano, a third baseman from the University of Albany out of East Amherst, went 2-for-4 in the 7-3 victory at Bradner Stadium. Rossano’s home run gave the Oilers the lead for good at 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

Olean Oilers Cruise Past the Genesee Rapids
OLEAN, NY — A three-run homer by third baseman Cooper Rossano in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Oilers a 4-2 lead Thursday in Bradner Stadium. As the home team cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Genesee Rapids, Rosano's homer became the winning hit, run and RBI.

The Dickerson’s thank the community for nearly three decades of support. Rod and Kim Dickerson would like to thank their customers of over 28 years of operation at Riverside Sales and Service. Thank you for supporting a small business that could easily have been overlooked by big box tractor stores and online mechanics. This community grew up watching “the girls” ride bikes around the parking lot and now their kids are riding those same bikes around. Rod’s way of providing diagnosis over the phone helped the back yard mechanic fix their own mowers. Kim may not have ever fixed a mower herself- but knew pretty much every part anyone needed.

Dinosaurs and Haudenoseaunee Storytellers coming to the Cuba Library
Don’t miss these two exciting programs in early July. Fromt the Cuba Public Library, pictured is Perry Ground. Come to the Cuba Library on Wednesday, July 3 at 10 a.m. as Mike and Roberta Straka present the Dinosaur Adventure Show. They will explain how they became interested in science and in the work of a scientist. The presentation will feature Mr. Nixon, an eight-foot Triceratops skull discovered by the team in 1996 and examine the characteristics of this dinosaur. Audience members will experience the thrill of digging up a real Triceratops dinosaur bone and then help construct a dinosaur on a large cut-out. Audience participation, a touch of magic, and show and tell with rare fossils will round out this fun, education, and exciting adventure! As an added attraction, Mike and Roberta will set up a mini-museum, showcasing photos and minerals from their summer digs in South Dakota!
Scott P. Hope, Sr., 66, Friendship
Scott P. Hope, Sr., 66, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday (June 23, 2024) at home of natural causes. Mr. Hope was born on January 5, 1958 in Olean to Harry R. and Bonalyn R. (Sweet) Hope. Scott was a 1976 graduate of Franklinville Central School where he graduated from the BOCES welding program. He entered the United States Navy in 1979 and served for three years. After that he worked for a number of years as a machinist and a welder at Hydramec in Scio. Most recently, he owned and operated Hope Logging Company. On September 21, 1991, he married Teresa Marie Starr, who predeceased him on December 3, 2008.

Police reports 6/27/24
Tuesday, 10:03 p.m., no injuries were reported following a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Higgins Avenue and Main Street. A vehicle operated by an 18-year-old Olean resident was making a left turn when it reportedly struck a vehicle operated by Daniel N. MacDonald, 61, of 608 Washington St. The youth was subsequently cited for improper lane change, an infraction.

OLEAN — Changes to policies regarding the dress code, water bottles and the disciplinary process are highlighted in the 2023-24 Olean City School District Code of Conduct.
