Via Cassia opened its doors on Warren Street on March 14 in the former site of the beloved Ca’Mea Restaurant,. A fixture of the old-guard Hudson dining scene for two decades, it closed at the start of 2024. Fans of the previous restaurant will be glad to learn that the space passed to a chef committed to continuing and elevating the tradition of Italian cuisine.

Work on East State roundabout starts Monday
OLEAN — The next phase of work on East State Street will begin Monday. Weather permitting, work by Millennium will begin on the Barry Street intersection on Monday, city Department of Public Works officials reported. The work will include replacing the current four-way, stop light-controlled intersection with a roundabout.
Oilers Sweep Doubleheader Against Genesee Rapids
HOUGHTON, NY — The Olean Oilers swept a doubleheader against the Genesee Rapids Wednesday. Back-to-back four-run innings propelled the Oilers to a 9-7 win in Game 1. The Oilers loaded the bases early in both the fifth and sixth innings. Two infield singles, a walk and a hit batter brought four runs to tie the game 5-5 in the fifth. The Rapids retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning by scoring one run. The Oilers again loaded the bases in the top of the sixth inning, and right fielder Michael Norton hit his first grand slam of the season.

Family Safe, Home Damaged After Blaze on Silver Cloud Lane in Knoxville
A house fire that took place Sunday evening in Knoxville has left a residence with severe damage, but thankfully, no injuries were reported. The Knoxville Fire Department responded to a distress call at around 6:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Silver Cloud Lane. WVLT reported that a woman alerted the authorities after finding her home filled with smoke and noting that her husband had re-entered the property.

The Wellsboro and Cowanesque Valley football teams will be competing this Saturday, July 20 in Sayre in the second year of the Battle of the Bowl seven-on-seven tournament. Tioga Publishing is proud to announce their 2024 All-Star selections for the boys’ tennis season where Galeton led the way with an incredible season. Galeton turned in a 14-3 record overall in 2024 and was the only area team to reach the second round of the District 4 Playoffs with a first-round victory over Wellsboro before falling in the second round to the powerhouse Lewisburg squad.
Pickup Truck Crashes into Knapp Creek Home
A pickup truck crashed into a Knapp Creek home Monday afternoon. At 3:45 pm, fire and police departments – including volunteer fire departments from Knapp Creek, Allegany, Olean, and Weston Mills. Port Allegany responded with a technical rescue squad, and other Pennsylvania fire departments responded, including Derrick City and Otto Township.
Andover First Baptist donates to Jones Memorial
Recently, the Dr. F Clifton Miller Birthing Center at Jones Memorial Hospital received a large donation from the Andover First Baptist Church in Andover, NY. Church members competed in teams, girls vs. boys, to collect change from May 12, 2024 through June 16, for this worthwhile initiative. In just over a month, the boys raised $603.45, “beating” the girl at $585.65, thanks to a last minute donation. The total donated to the birthing center was $1,189.10. These funds will be used to supply the sleep sacks that are given out to every family at the birthing center. Each sleep sack costs $8 so this donation will fund 148 blankets, almost a six-month supply.

Harrison Valley, Pa. — Betty M. Metcalf, 92, of Harrison Valley, Pa. died Monday, July 8, 2024 in her home. Born March 17, 1932 in Harrison Township, she was the daughter of Ivan L. and Myra I. Outman Kibbe. On March 25, 1950 in Harrison Valley, she married Fred H. Metcalf, who predeceased her on Aug. 10, 2007.
