City of Olean to spend $205,000 more on South Union after state demands
OLEAN — Work on South Union Street will cost an extra $205,000 before a single shovel of dirt is overturned. In a 4-3 vote, the Common Council approved a change order with Millennium Construction to add street paving and roundabout lighting back into the $3.98 million South Union Street Gateway project, which is expected to break ground later this year.
Oilers Split Doubleheader With Horseheads Hitmen
HORSEHEADS, NY — The Olean Oilers split a doubleheader with the Horseheads Hitmen Tuesday. The Oilers won Game 1 in home run derby fashion, hitting five homers in an 11-4 win. Outfielders Jason Story and Michael Norton both hit two round trippers. Shortstop Joshua Wilson added a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

Police reports 7/9/24
Sunday, 11:09 p.m., Christina K. Cobb, 39, no permanent address, was arrested on a bench warrant issued out of Olean City Court. Cobb was held pending arraignment. Monday, 12:34 a.m., Steven M. Gaddy, 42, of 309 S. Berry St., was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class A misdemeanor. Gaddy was released with an appearance ticket.
Wellsville’s Green wins Section 5 Independent POY
Wellsville senior catcher Alex Green won the Section 5 Independent league Player of the Year honor, topping a field of four candidates for the prize. Section 5 Independent teams, without a league themselves, banded together to present postseason awards and all-star teams this year. Green won the top prize, with Wellsville teammate Tyler Vogel, Greece Olympia/Odyssey’s Tyler Ashton and Bloomfield’s Kyler Dredger also nominated.
