Sad news: Wellsville man dies after ATV accident
On July 4, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., State Police were called to County Road 38 in the town of Alma for a report of an ATV accident. An investigation determined that the driver of the ATV, Jesse M. Bestine, 26, along with one passenger, Zachary J. Barnett, 25, both of Wellsville, were traveling east on County Road 38, when Bestine swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle causing the ATV to overturn several times.

The Southern Tier’s independent wrestling outfit kicked off its summer tour June 29 in Binghamton, and the fireworks continue this weekend in Hornell with “Xcite Wrestling Presents: Independence Day” on Saturday, July 6 at the Hornell Area Family YMCA.

Olean marks Independence Day with fun, fireworks
OLEAN — Thousands flocked to Olean’s Bradner Stadium, War Vets Park and other adjacent sites on Thursday afternoon as part of Independence Day festivities. The Olean Oilers hosted festivities for a second year, taking over from the city’s firefighters union in 2023. Events began when the gates opened at 12:30 p.m. for a free baseball game at 1:30 p.m., with the two-time NYCBL champion Oilers topping the Salamanca Lizards, 4-3. Gates to the field opened at 5 p.m., with the band New Wave Nation taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks erupted at 9:45 p.m., capping off the evening for visitors in the stadium and in the surrounding sections of the city.

WELLSVILLE — A Pennsylvania man was arrested Wednesday for an alleged shooting during a party in the town of Wellsville, New York State police reported Thursday. Gregory S. Miller, 54, of Penndel in Bucks County, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree criminal use of a weapon.

Pennsylvania man arrested on multiple charges after shooting at party
A shooting at a party Wednesday night near Wellsville led to the arrest of a Pennsylvania man on multiple charges, state police in Amity reported. Gregory S. Miller, 54, of Penndel, near Philadelphia, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal use of a weapon and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is held in Allegany County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
