Second phase of Adirondack Rail Trail completed, opened ahead of schedule Aug. 26
Recreational trail in the heart of the Adirondacks now open from Lake Placid to Floodwood Road, final section of rail trail remains closed for construction. On Aug. 26, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the completion of construction and the ahead-of-schedule opening of the second phase of the Adirondack Rail Trail from Saranac Lake to Floodwood Road. In addition, New York State recently awarded the contract for rail trail construction from Floodwood Road to Tupper Lake and work will begin immediately on the final phase of the 34-mile, multi-use recreational corridor for outdoor adventurers between Tupper Lake and Lake Placid.

Police say a New York state man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, as well as aggravated unlicensed operator, after an incident August 13. What makes this case even worse is that authorities say the very same suspect was busted for DWI just a little over a week prior to his most recent arrest.
Severe Weather Possible Across New York State
Today will start off with some hot and humid weather but a cold front is expected to bring some unsettled weather with a risk of severe weather tonight and into Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a marginal risk for severe weather for much of New York State, while there is an elevated risk for severe weather across the Southern Tier.

The biggest crowds in New York State Fair concert history include a mix of country, hip-hop and rock — with a few names appearing in the top 25 twice. Country star Lainey Wilson set a new NYS Fair record with 53,200 fans at Suburban Park in 2023. It’s the largest audience in Syracuse concert history, too, surpassing The Who’s Carrier Dome audience of 47,319 in 1982.

Two winners in New York state took home TAKE 5 jackpot prizes worth more than $15,000, including one winner in New York City, according to lottery officials. The New York Lottery announced two top-prize tickets — worth $15,588 — were sold on Aug. 26 for the evening drawing.
Encore Renewable Energy breaks ground on its first New York solar project
Encore Renewable Energy announced today that construction is underway on a 3.6-MW solar array located in Constable, New York. Constable Solar is Encore’s first solar project in New York State and part of nearly 90 MW of solar and energy storage currently under development by Encore in the Empire State. Under New York’s NY-Sun Initiative and VDER program, NYSEG will compensate Encore for the electricity produced from the new array and deliver affordable, reliable and carbon-free energy to their customers.
