New Yorkers, Fired Over Vax Mandate, Blast Mayor for Exempting Athletes

Some feel slighted over Mayor Adams changing the mandate for athletes

New York City — Last year during the heated mayoral race, I asked a pal who's getting his vote. "That's easy ..." my pal said. "Adams! I mean, he's the only candidate that knows what time it is."

To successfully serve as the CEO of Gotham City, the mayor has to "know what time it is." Back in the 90s, when NYC's crime rate shot through the roof, Giuliani proved he knew the clock read "tough on crime" time.

With the NBA playoffs around the corner, Mayor Adams apparently glanced at the clock. And the clock read: time to grant exemptions for pro athletes and star performers.

But some New Yorkers feel slighted by the Mayor's abrupt change of heart.

“I’m not as important as a Met is, because a Met will fill Citi Field, which fills the coffers of New York,” unvaccinated resident Elissa Embree said, noting she was sent home last week from her job waitressing at the Mets’ Citi Field.

Ah, but again it's important to remember the Mayor's chief job description is to serve as the city's "CEO."

"This is about putting New York athletes on a level playing field," Adam said during a news conference, justifying his controversial stance. "We were treating our performers differently because they live and play in New York City."

In short, perhaps New Yorkers fired over vax mandate and Mayor Adams are both in the right. Ultimately. Or as that old philosopher Hegel once put it:

Genuine tragedies in the world are not conflicts between right and wrong. They are conflicts between two rights.
