Adams proposed the largest executive budget in city history

New York City — "Not everyone will be happy..." Mayor Adams announced. He just as well had added, while at it, that was the understatement of the century! After all, the mayor's proposed $106,700,000,000 is the largest in New York City's illustrious history.

In Mayor Adam's defense, however, as have his predecessors named de Blasio and Giuliani and _____, Gotham City is America's heartbeat — a microcosm of the nation.

The instant President Biden revealed the nation faced a broader immigration crisis, quite naturally America's "unofficial capital" had to bear the brunt of the migrant crisis. In response to migrants flooding the City That Never Sleeps, the mayor justified his record-breaking proposal as follows:

The challenges we face are real — including the costs of the asylum seeker crisis, the need to fund labor deals, and slowing tax revenue growth — and we must budget wisely.

“Heavy is the head that wears the crown,” Shakespeare famously wrote.

Aside from a head of state, perhaps no elected official is subject to the same level of scrutiny as NYC's mayor. In this case, Adams is merely feeling the "headache" that comes with being the "King of New York."

Even the mayor's beloved NYPD, to which he belonged for 20 years, isn't spared from the tough-decision-making process.

According to the comptroller's office, the NYPD is single-handedly responsible for the largest piece of NYC's overtime-costs pie.

"Through February 2023," Comptroller Brad Lander’s office wrote, "the NYPD has spent $472 million on uniformed overtime, already exceeding its $374 million budget for FY 2023 by $98 million."

In short, Mayor Adams's record-breaking proposal once again reminds us why "heavy is the head that wears the crown..."

    ...Heavy is the head.
