Weeks after making an 'insensitive' remark, the Head of NYC’s elite Collegiate School steps down

New York City — The great philosopher Nietzsche once said, in this life — "there are no facts, only interpretations."

In other words, because there's no reality without perception, this explains why the saying goes, "Perception is reality."

When David Lourie, who's been the head of Manhattan’s elite Collegiate School since 2020, called the school system's antisemitism task force a “joke,” little did he know how much that comment would affect others' perceptions of him.

On Monday, Lourie broke the news to parents and students that he was officially stepping down. Why? Lourie says he hopes to give Collegiate a “fresh start.”

According to the NY Times report, the former leader of Collegiate School in Manhattan stepped down due to serious pressure. Apparently an internal report found major "problems of religious and cultural bias."

In short, Nietzsche was spot-on in reminding us to always be mindful of how our remarks are perceived by others.
