If elected for Speaker of the House, Jeffries will be the first in our nation's history

New York City — If something's never happened before and then it happens, that makes it historic, Jim Brown once said.

Indeed, Brown — an NFL legend — was puzzled that the sport he loved has never had a Black owner, despite being a league comprised mostly of Black players.

With that being said — Hakeem Jeffries hopes he'll soon make history!

As a representative of Brooklyn, Jeffries is doing his best to ensure gentrification doesn't obliterate the true political landscape of historically Black neighborhoods. Politics aside, Jeffries has a shot at making history.

If Democrats reclaim the House in this coming November election, Jeffries will be first in line to lead the chamber. This means, like Obama and David Dinkins (NYC's first Black mayor), Jeffries has a chance to make history, too.

In short, just as Obama made headlines as a senator on his way to a historic presidential victory, Jeffries hopes his becoming the U.S. House Democrats' first Black leader suggests — History repeats herself.
