Governor Hochul Considers Banning Face Masks on NYC's Subways

Amid the recent flurry of antisemitic violence, Gov. Hochul may ban face masks on subways

New York City — After "a group donning masks took over a subway car, scaring riders and chanting things about Hitler and wiping out Jews" on Monday night, Governor Hochul had seen enough.

On Thursday, Hochul told reporters she'd been in serious talks with lawmakers on possibly crafting a bill to ban face masks on subways.

The governor expressed serious concerns about people hiding their identities behind masks to commit antisemitic acts.

According to reports, several different episodes related to pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Union Square Park sparked the governor's anti-mask considerations.

After leaving the rally, a large crowd flooded subway stations. Some waved flags and shouted obscenities on trains.

Apparently things got so out of control that some man, wearing a mask, led a small group in chanting, "Raise your hands if you're a Zionist" to stunned passengers.

Governor Hochul said she's seen and heard enough.
