The city hopes to give the East Bronx a $500 million makeover

New York City — Years ago when I first moved to New York, I asked what the Bronx is like...

..."Ahh, stay outta the Bronx, young fella," the old New Yorker advised. "I mean, the Bronx puts the 'rough' in the word borough."

Ouch!

Thankfully over the years, living conditions have improved in the Bronx. Considerably. Gentrification's latest upgrade comes in the form of the City Council's recently approved rezoning plan.

According to the plan, the city will produce nearly 7,000 housing units. The units are set to offer some below-market rents and reasonably-priced rentals.

In short, by investing $500 million in the East Bronx, the city hopes this marks a step in the right direction.
