Mayor Adams and the city are on the hunt for new land development

New York City — "Desperate times call for desperate measures," goes the saying.

No wonder on Wednesday, Mayor Eric Adams signed an executive order directing every city agency to see whether new homes could be built on any property it owns.

The "city agencies" include everything — ranging from the NYPD to the Parks Department. "Leave no stone unturned" appears to be the mayor's motto.

Even properties like garages, where the Department of Sanitation stores trucks and whatnot, are being seriously considered. Simply put: New York City has too many people for too little housing.

Such pressure on the supply-demand chart reflects why the mayor is pressing for action.

“If there’s any land within the city’s control that has even the remotest potential to develop affordable housing, our administration will take action,” Mr. Adams said.

In short, the city plans to keep a watchful eye out for any potential housing development opportunities.
