NYC Looking to Improve Subway System

For years, New Yorkers have been calling for upgrades to the subway system

New York City — Subways are to New Yorkers what Hollywood is to Los Angeles. When tourists visit the Big Apple, one of their first adventures is riding on a "New York City subway."

"New York’s subway was once an international model of modernity," Yonah Freemark writes. "But it's not anymore."

So what happened?

Simply put, NYC's subway system seems stuck in the "good-old-days." Unlike Singapore, where the city embraces AI and uses a fully driverless metro, not the Big Apple.

Embracing metro automation will not only free up much-needed space on cramped trains, but it'll also add more trains running per hour.

Lastly, there's the not-so-small issue of cleaning up the place.

I vividly recall once having to cover my nose with a shirt while waiting for my train.

Such nose covering was by no means a fashion statement. Instead, my nose demanded protection from the stench.

In short, from embracing AI to offering a cleaner environment for passengers, if embraced — NYC's subway system can return to its original prominence.
