LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A police chase ended with a driver crashing a pick-up truck in front of a Kohl’s in Genoa Township on Tuesday.
The crash happened at around 2:45 p.m. Michigan State Police and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department were on the scene.
The Ingham County Sheriff’s Department received several calls of a reckless driver on westbound I-96 near the Ingham/Livingston county line at around noon on Tuesday.
Deputies gave chase to the vehicle from northbound Highway 127 to eastbound I-96, attempting to pull the vehicle over. Eventually, the pursuit was deemed too dangerous to continue and Ingham County deputies terminated the chase near Williamson Road.
At 1:30 p.m., Ingham County dispatch received a report of a man forcing entry into a home at M-52 and Milner in Leroy Township. The female caller reported that the man threatened to kill her and demanded the keys to her vehicle, a white pickup truck. Authorities would then locate the suspect near I-96, but he was once again deemed too dangerous to pursue.
MSP located the suspect driving the stolen vehicle in Fowlerville on Grand River Avenue, and MSP and deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department gave chase.
Deputies deployed spike strips, which deflated the driver-side tires. The vehicle continued down Grand River Avenue and crashed into a Lexus SUV with two people inside.
Witnesses told WHMI that authorities enacted a pit maneuver as the truck headed down Grand River Avenue, causing the truck to spin and strike another vehicle. The front of the truck was significantly damaged.
The male suspect, 60-65 years old of Fenton, was taken into custody and hospitalized in Sparrow Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He will be booked into Ingham County Jail. Charges will be sought in both Ingham and Livingston counties.
