Shakespeare Club gets new leadership
Lisbeth Powell and Darlene Tarlton will share the leadership as co-presidents of the Placerville Shakespeare Club. The club was formed on May 2, 1897, with the chief objective of studying the plays of William Shakespeare. Now well into its second century, the club continues to be dedicated to its original ideals of promoting sociability and friendship among members, providing assistance to local charities and youth in addition to beautifying the neighborhood in which the clubhouse is located. Recently nine scholarships were given to support young women in pursuing their educational goals.
Man Fatally Injured Between Two Vehicles in Tahoma Parking Lot Incident
A tragic incident unfolded in Tahoma, Northern California, when a man was fatally injured after becoming ensnared between two vehicles, officials said. The California Highway Patrol's South Lake Tahoe division reported that a 53-year-old man was caught between a Ford F450 and a trailer truck on Monday, around 1 p.m., as per FOX40. Efforts to intervene as the unaccompanied Ford rolled through a parking lot proved futile, leading to the man's demise.

Optum laying off 364 employees in California, many at urgent care facilities
Optum, a health care company owned by UnitedHealth Group, is laying off 364 workers in California, many of them at urgent care facilities.The company is laying off 525 people nationwide.According to a letter from Optum sent to the Employment Development Department, layoffs and departmental closures are being carried out in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties.Locations include Glendora, Montebello, Covina, Pasadena, Long Beach, Redlands, Highland, Los Angeles, Beaumont, Irvine, Hayward, El Segundo and Cerritos.Optum didn't give a reason for the layoffs and didn't say if severance pay is being offered. The layoffs will take place in series of eight "waves," starting in September and ending in January.
