Travelin’ Light Illuminates Renee Butler’s Ongoing Artistic Evolution
The Washington Color School is, understandably, a point of pride in the creative history of D.C., and there has been fresh interest in the work of many of its artists in recent years. Aside from the most famous entities who now command millions of dollars at auction, the community around the movement was a rich ground for experimentation in which many local artists were inspired by each other’s work. One of those artists was Renee Butler, who has spent her career learning from, collaborating with, collecting, and cheerleading members of her local artistic community. Travelin’ Light, an exhibit of Butler’s work from the past few years, on display at the American University Museum, bears echoes of her past work and fellow artistic influences, while presenting something totally new and unique to her.

Washington, D.C. (22 July 2024) – The Atlantis, the newest addition to I.M.P.’s iconic D.C. venue portfolio, opened May 30, 2023 to mark the 44th anniversary of the concert promoter and their original legendary venue, the 9:30 Club. The promoter’s quest to replicate as many details as possible from the original venue, while still providing the powerful and impeccable sound their modern venues are renowned for posed significant challenges for the sound system installation. Through the expertise of Clair Global’s Eighth Day Sound, I.M.P. found a unique solution in d&b audiotechnik A-Series Augmented Array and SL-Series Subwoofers. This allowed the venue to launch with a star-studded celebration of 44 intimate performances featuring high-profile acts such as the Foo Fighters, Parliament-Funkadelic, Maggie Rogers, and members of Wilco and Death Cab for Cutie, among others.
