    Georgetown Police alert public to cop impersonation scam

    GEORGETOWN – Georgetown Police are alerting the public that the department has received reports of individuals posing as Georgetown police officers, in attempts to obtain financial information of solicit funds.

    “We want to emphasize that no member of the Georgetown Police Department will ever ask for any financial information or request monetary compensation for any reason,” said the police department announced in a social media release. “We urge everyone to be cautious and refrain from sending money to anyone claiming to be affiliated with our agency.”

    Anyone who has been a victim of this scam is asked to please contact the Georgetown Police Department immediately.

    “We take these matters very seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community,” the release stated.
