For New BU President, Journalism Was Part of the Family
Medical doctor, researcher and provost discusses her grounding in storytelling, communications, and journalism. Boston University’s 11th president, Melissa L. Gilliam, was introduced to the BU community on October 4. Although she doesn’t take office until July 1, 2024, Gilliam already has a strong personal connection to the missions of many of BU’s 17 schools and colleges, especially COM: she studied English literature at Yale and philosophy and politics at Oxford University; she has a masters in public health from University of Illinois Chicago and a degree from Harvard Medical School. Her father, Sam Gilliam, was a renowned abstract painter. And her mother, Dorothy Butler Gilliam, was a pioneering journalist. “We grew up with a very strong humanitarian focus and a focus on the impact that one could have in the world,” Gilliam says of herself and her two sisters.

Celtics have one of top 10 contracts in the NBA according to latest rankings
It’s impossible to win an NBA Championship without stars. The Boston Celtics have that. But it’s equally as unattainable to bring home a banner without top-notch depth. Some teams have done it, but the Celtics didn’t use that formula. They stacked their roster with quality players from top to bottom.
Trevor Story's return raises questions about Red Sox middle infield alignment
When Trevor Story underwent surgery in April to repair a glenoid fracture in his left shoulder, the procedure was billed as season-ending. In the months since his surgery, Story's timeline has changed. In late July, Story suggested he would try to return to action before the end of the 2024 slate. By Aug. 11, Alex Cora shared that he "truly believes" the shortstop could play late in the season.

Portsmouth's Pontine Theatre Announces 47th Season
From September 20-22, Portsmouth NH’s Pontine Theatre kicks off its 47th Season with performances of Odysseus by guest artist, William George, founding director of Pennsylvania’s Kingfisher Theatre. His latest creation is a fresh and intimate interpretation of the eternal Greek legend, The Odyssey. This timeless tale follows the mythical ten-year journey of one man, Odysseus, struggling to make his way home after the Trojan War. In a stage performance that is at once epic and “breath taking”—with live musical soundscapes performed by percussionist Rob Aptaker—this new solo work from William George, with directorial assistance from Gerard Stropnicky (co-founder of Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble) is a sensory experience and a once-in-a-decade theatre event not to be missed. The script, written by George, is drawn primarily from Alexander Pope’s 18th-century adaptation but is also influenced by several other translations of Homer’s epic work. The story may be ancient, but the themes ring true today—revealing deep insights not just about the psychic relationship between us all and the Divine, but also about fathers and sons, husbands and wives, and the profoundly human weaving of life and suffering in our lives. Performances are Friday 7pm, Saturday @3pm & Sunday @2pm. Purchase tickets at Pontine’s website: www.pontine.org.

AJ Black's 2024 Boston College Football Predictions
My predictions for the Eagles for the upcoming season. Boston College kicks off a new era this season with Bill O'Brien taking over in Chestnut Hill. A long time coach with local ties, O'Brien has extensive experience at both the collegiate and pro levels. Taking over for Jeff Hafley who decided to leave the college ranks to become a defensive coordinator with the Green Bay Packers, O'Brien isn't walking into a bad situation. In fact, when he took over the job, only two players transferred, and both of those players were lower on the depth chart.
