Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) claimed a fiery exchange between her and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) nearly turned into a physical brawl when another Democrat was about to step in.

The House Oversight Committee met last month to discuss a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress. When Crockett felt things were going off topic, she said so and earned backlash from Greene as the Georgia lawmaker accused her of being unable to read the resolution because of her “fake eyelashes.”

The committee quickly descended into chaos as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) jumped in to condemn Greene’s words. Crockett fired back at Greene, accusing her of having a “bleach blonde, bad-built butch body” when trying to clarify what language was acceptable at the meeting.

Crockett told The Independent this week that Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) was getting up after Greene hurled her insult with the intention of a contfrontation.

“When AOC jumped in so quickly, what people didn’t see off camera was that Ayanna Pressley was ready to jump in and stood up and… it was gonna get into a fight,” Crockett said.

The lawmaker added that Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) verbally jumping in so quickly to condemn Greene also kept Pressley where she was.

“The bigger story that kind of emerged from this was what women of color face at work. When you’re by yourself, people take liberties, but when they realize that you’re not by yourself, it definitely puts them in a different light and puts them in a different stance,” Crockett said.
