Willie Nelson recently came down with health issues, prompting his doctor to place him on compulsory bed rest for days until he is well enough to join the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week. The unexpected breakdown meant Nelson’s absence from one of the festival gigs at Alpharetta, Georgia; however, his son Lukas saved the day by performing in his stead.

Lukas did a cover of his father’s “Always On My Mind” from 1982, which hit number one on the country Billboard charts and earned the aged singer multiple Grammy awards. Despite being in his nineties, Nelson dropped yet another studio album— his 75th one, last month.

Lukas represented his father well such that fans began to tear up as he performed which is no surprise since he is a talented singer-songwriter himself. He has worked with Neil Young on two albums and released multiple songs with his band, Promise of the Real. He also did another hit of Nelson’s, “Angel Flying Close To The Ground,” and from the reactions, there could be no better replacement than Lukas.

A clip of his rendition made it to social media, and fans could not but gush over it while those present recounted the experience with fondness. “Holy cow. He’s incredible!! The apple didn’t even fall,” a delighted TikTok user gushed. “Fantastic. He may be better than his Dad in his prime. Dare I say it? Gorgeous voice,” another added.

    Willie Nelson’s health condition

While Lukas is doing a great job at representing his legendary dad, fans are concerned about Nelson’s current state, especially since he is already in his nineties. The icon is reportedly doing better and has no plans to get off the road regardless. Last December, he joked about getting back to work again even after he decided to quit, hence his reason for remaining so active.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame last year, which came as a pleasant surprise as he considered it a feat he could hardly accomplish anymore. Despite his rich catalog of classics and unforgettable music, he still experiences some bouts of self-doubt and creative blocks but keeps going at what he loves doing best.
